Aircraft Noise Meeting


	Mike hosted a meeting in his office for residents who were concerned about aircraft noise in the Riverton and Shelley areas.			Mike also invited Federal Members Steve Irons and Dennis Jensen to the meeting to discuss the problems of aircraft noise.

Premier's Community Forum


	Principal Steven Wells and students from Shelley Primary School took the opportunity to come along to the event.			Year 6 student Ella Hartley asked the Premier Colin Barnett about when he decided to become Premier of the State.

	The Premier met with Principal Gary Anderson and some of the students from Lynwood Senior High School.			Mike and the Premier Colin Barnett also had a chat with students from Rossmoyne Senior High School.

	The Premier also visited the Willetton Sports Club and met with Willetton District Cricket Club director Gavin Brown and Mike about the access problems now that the club is closed.			Colin Barnett and Mike discussed the Club's closure and what could be done to give local clubs access with Gavin Brown, local cricketer Brad Hogg and WDCC President Mike McGlinn.

Premier's Community Forum


	While in the Riverton Electorate, the Premier Colin Barnett also visited the Willetton Child Care Centre and met with President Lindsay Holland, Centre Director Sally Whittaker and parents.			Colin Barnet and Mike also spoke with Sheryl Bodger who has been the cook at the Willetton Child Care Centre for the last 25 years. Sheryl showed the Premier the kitchen that needs renovations.

Parliamentary Delegation to India


	In November Mike led a Parliamentary delegation to visit Government, business and educational facilities in New Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai.			While there, Mike signed a Memorandum of Understanding between Edith Cowan University and the University of Mumbai to promote faculty and student exchanges.

Flashing LED Lights Needed

Herald Avenue 25th Anniversary


	Mike joined student Amarni Lowe and long-standing crossing guard Peter Judge on Rostrata Avenue outside Rostrata Primary School where they are campaigning for flashing LED lights.			Mike joined President Mary Robertson, Senior Vice-President Harry Monks, Treasurer Audrey Varischetti and long-standing member Mal Atwell at the 25th Anniversary celebrations.

Good Samaritan Industries


	Mike joined Chief Executive John Knowles and Lyn and Jim Beale in congratulating their son Glen Read on being awarded a certificate for his 25 years of service.			Mike joined many of the workers to sort donated clothing and prepare it for sale at the GSI facility in Canning Vale.

Good Samaritan Industries


	Mike presented the Chief Executive of Good Samaritan Industries, John Knowles, with a State Government cheque for $180,000 for GSI to develop programs to help older workers.			Mike joined GSI's Board Members Reverend Wilf Pearce and Lorraine Paul to present several long term staff with their service awards at the cheque presentation ceremony.

Malaysia's National Day

Fiona Stanley Hospital


	I joined Malaya Borneo Veterans Association's Bill Adamson, Melville Councillor Rasa Subramaniam, the Malaysian Consul General Hamidah Ashari and Governor Malcolm McCusker at Kings Park for Malaysia's National Day.			I did a tour of the Fiona Stanley Hospital and was impressed by its size and the fact that it is being constructed on time and on budget.

Youth Parliament

Students' German Tour


	Mike met with Jemma Saxton and Willetton Senior High School Principal Chris Booth to congratulate Jemma on being appointed the Member for Riverton in the Youth Parliament.			Students and teachers from Parkwood Primary School joined me for an afternoon tea in acknowledgement of the fact that the school was the first primary school to undertake a student tour of Germany.

Minister for Senior's Visit


	Mike invited the Minister for Seniors, Robyn McSweeney, to visit the very successful Herald Avenue Senior Citizens Club and to meet with many of the members of the committee.			The Minister and Mike also addressed some of the members and told them about the popular annual Cost of Living Rebate, which would be going into their bank accounts from July 18.

Premier visits Willetton Senior High School


	Mike and the Premier Colin Barnett were swamped by an impromptu crowd of young students during the Premier's recent visit to WSHS. The Premier encouraged the school council to prepare a Master Plan to upgrade the school's facilities.			The Premier also took the opportunity to meet with and address the school staff during the morning tea break to personally congratulate them on the school's outstanding academic success and to wish them continued success for the remainder of the year.

New RAC Service Centre


	Mike joined apprentice Luke Brown, Canning Mayor Joe Delle Donne and Steve Nickolai, RAC General Manager Auto Services to officially open the new RAC Service Centre in Catalano Street in Canning Vale.			In his speech at the opening, Mike welcomed the RAC Service Centre and acknowledged the fact that its establishment would provide an excellent service to the local community and create many local jobs.

Premier Tours Rossmoyne SHS


	The Premier Colin Barnett and I undertook a tour of Rossmoyne Senior High School and we spoke with the politics and law students.			Head Boy Shonouk Chatterje and Head Girl Connie Ainscough joined the Premier and I for a photo at the end of our talk.

100th Birthday Celebrations


	I had the pleasure to present Mrs Iris Perkins of Rossmoyne with flowers for her 100th birthday on 27 June 2011.			The Southside Harmony Chorus entertained everyone with their wonderful repertoire of songs at Iris' birthday party.

Red Nose Day

Flashing LED Lights


	I joined Christian Porter and Rossmoyne Senior High School students Kailee Jones and Kudakwashe Mataranyika to wear a red nose to raise funds for SIDS and Kids.			New flashing LED lights have been installed in Karel Avenue near Rossmoyne Senior High School to alert drivers to slow down to 40km/h because it's a school zone.

Canning Men's Shed


	I recently visited the Canning Men's Shed where local men gather to make toys and other wooden items to raise funds for charities.			I spoke with the President, Eddie Holmes, about the group's ability to tap into State Government funding to assist them in their goals.

Canning Art Awards


	I joined many members of the community, including Councillor Robert Morgan and Councillor Stuart Clarke and his wife to view the artwork in the competition.			John Jackson's winning painting was outstanding. I was a co-sponsor of the event and also sponsored the Canning Arts Group Member prize won by Diana Elliott.

Caltex Riverton Problems


	I have been working closely with the City of Canning to resolve the traffic issues caused by vehicles queuing up to purchase cheap fuel at the Caltex Riverton service station.			More than 30 members of the local community attended a public meeting that I hosted with the Mayor to look at proposed changes to reduce the safety risks.

	Mike talks with constituent Tom Stinton who is getting a new gas heater fitted by Bob Wright from Alinta Assist under the programme where some pre-1980 gas appliances need to be replaced in anticipation of the new gas specification that is being introduced to WA in 2013. Visit to Seniors


	I visited the Herald Avenue Senior Citizens Club and met with Audrey Varischetti, Past President Sheila Adderley, Current President Mary Robertson to discuss senior issues.			I spoke with ladies from the Club's Tai Chi class about the State Government's increases to the Cost of Living Rebate and the new more flexible eligibility for the WA Seniors Card.

Buddhist Council


	The Premier Colin Barnett and Ajahn Brahm joined me at a luncheon at Parliament that I hosted for members of the Buddhist Council of Western Australia.			Fellow MPs and Buddhist Council members, including Jake Mitra, Ven Dondrub, Franz Etter, Don Sheppard and Ms Ramani Gunasekera joined me at the event.

RSHS ANZAC Ceremony


	I joined other local dignitaries and RSL representatives at the ANZAC Service that Rossmoyne Senior High School held recently.			It was a pleasure to hear the student's Australians At War Speeches and to present them with their certificates of honour.

Opening of Metamorphosis Gallery


	I had the pleasure of opening the innovative Metamorphosis Art Gallery, where five local artists have joined together to display their art.			More than 150 people attended the opening of Metamorphosis at 7/16 Yampi Way, Willetton and enjoyed seeing the variety of art on display.

Roe Highway Extension Briefing


	I joined fellow Members of Parliament Joe Francis and Christian Porter for a briefing on the planned Roe Extension.			The final plans for the Roe Highway Extension are being collated and will soon be undergoing environmental assessment.

Harmony Week at Riverton PS


	I had the pleasure of addressing the school assembly at Riverton Primary School and spoke about our diverse community.			I joined new principal Paul Grundy with some of the multicultural students to sing a song at the assembly.

Willetton Rotary Fair


	More than 5,000 people came along to the very successful local fair run by the Rotary Club of Willetton.			I joined Rotary helper Elizabeth Singe and the 3 veg and 2 fruit man to help promote healthy eating.

International Women's Day


	Local identity Audrey Wright with Westpac Bank Manager Mary Plummer and students from Lynwood Senior High School were the speakers at the event.			Audrey Wright from Save the Children spoke of her early life in Africa and later in Australia and her involvement in women's and community interests.

Rossmoyne Senior High School


	I worked with the school and parents to get flashing LED speed signs for the school.			Rossmoyne's $14m redevelopment program at the school is coming along rapidly.

Canning Arts Group 40th


	I had the pleasure of attending the Canning Arts Group's 40th anniversary celebrations.			There were many art displays and performances on the day to keep the crowds entertained.

Market City Canning Vale


	I joined Peter Cooper, CEO of Market City for a tour of their state-of-the-art facilities.			The variety of fruit and vegetables available at Market City is huge, just like these squashes.

$132,000 Lotterywest Grant


	I had the pleasure of presenting some of the parents and children at the Willetton Child Care Centre with a Lotterywest cheque.			The funds will allow President Lindsay Holland and his committee to undertake a much needed refurbishment of the premises.

Cleanup at Canning Lodge


	I joined volunteer workers from the 1st Canning Sea Scouts Rovers and Venturers to tidy up the grounds at Canning Lodge.			Trudi Trengrove from Canning Lodge spoke to the group and allocated the work, which included rose pruning, raking and weeding.

Australia Day 2011


	I joined Maxine Harrison, President of the Rotary Club of Rossmoyne on the Shelley Foreshore with a huge crowd for the annual Australia Day breakfast.			At the breakfast, many members of the Rotary club pitched in to help cook up sausages, eggs, baked beans and toast for everyone to share.

Caltex Congestion


	Dr Nahan talks to concerned residents about the traffic congestion caused by vehicles queuing for fuel at the Caltex Service Station in Riverton.			While Dr Nahan spoke to residents, many people were seen to be driving down the wrong side of the road to get around the congestion.

LED Lights Outside Schools


	Mike met with Transport Minister Simon O'Brien outside the LED lights at Lynwood Senior High School where he agreed to install similar lights at Willetton Senior High School before the beginning of Term 1 in 2011.			Mike was busy towards the end of the year handing out flyers at Rossmoyne Senior High School for his campaign to get LED lights for that school too. The lights help to alert drivers that they are going through a school zone.

ANZAC Day
