Riverton Primary School GraduationRiverton Primary School Graduation

 

Mike attended the Year 7 Graduation ceremonies of many of the local schools in the electorate, including the well-run ceremony at Riverton Primary School.

 

 

Mike presented Brianna Wallace from Riverton Primary School with the Award for Academic Excellence for her hard work and excellent grades during the year.

Dr Nahan discusses the need for more engineers with Principal Chris Booth, Manual Arts teacher Paul Hogg and Physics teacher Brett Broughton.

 

 

The school's innovative Engineering Programme received national recognition when the teachers were presented with an award and a $5,000 prize for the school from Engineers Australia.

Mike and his wife Nyuk were made Honorary Members of the Rotary Club of Willetton at a recent presentation dinner hosted by the club.

 

 

Mike addressed the group afterwards and he acknowledged the important work that the Rotary Club members do within our community.

 

Market City Canning Vale 21st BirthdayMarket City Canning Vale 21st Birthday

 

Representatives from the fruit and vegetable industries gathered to celebrate Market City's 21st birthday on 18 November 2010.

 

 

Agriculture Minister Terry Redman congratulated Market City on its role within our local community for its services, including the popular Sunday markets.

Mike joined Professor Gordon Parkinson, Chair of Rossmoyne SHS and Principal Leila Botham to view the site works for the school's $14 Redevelopment.

 

 

The work is expected to take about a year and will include extensions to the Performing Arts Centre, two new art studios, a special Languages block and an ampitheatre.

Playgroup president Jeannie Oliveira speaks to the group following the refurbishment of the Playgroup using Lotterywest funding. Dr Nahan provided the group with a letter of support to secure the funding.

 

 

Some of the children joined Jeannie Oliveira to cut the ribbon to officially open the playgroup's new facilities that feature large colourful play areas, shade sails and synthetic lawn.

Mike enjoyed working at the Willetton and Riverton McDonald's stores to help raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

More than 40 members of the Herald Avenue Senior Citizens Club joined me for an educational tour of Parliament House.

 

 

The Seniors also visited the Liberal Party Room and enjoyed a morning tea that I hosted in acknowledgement of WA Seniors Week.

The Premier and Dr Nahan joined the Singapore High Commissioner Doug Chester and other dignitaries at the Singapore Media Development Authority.

 

 

A tour of Singapore's innovative new development Garden by the Bay was a highlight of the official trip to Singapore with the Premier.

Dr Nahan spoke to members of the Australian Institute of Office Professionals on China's influence on Australia.

 

 

The Institute's Vice President Sue McComasky made a presentation to Dr Nahan after the event.

Dr Nahan recently held a community breakfast to congratulate Audrey Wright, the Honorary Secretary of the Save The Children, on the work she does in the community.

 

 

As patron of the club, Mike attended the AGM and club windup with Club President Mark Barrett and young players Domenico Rotondo and Jamie Barrett.

Dr Nahan joined fellow MPs, Westpac Staff and Lynwood Senior High School teachers and students as a judge for an art competition held at the Westpac bank in Willetton.

Dr Nahan explains the noise and visual problems to Transport Minister Simon O'Brien's staff that people who live near Roe Highway in Parkwood are experiencing.

 

 

Dr Nahan also showed the Transport Minister's staff the sand bund area where more trees will be planted to alleviate visual problems with the highway.

Increased numbers of students of all ages are enrolling to learn Chinese Mandarin through the Rossmoyne Chinese Language Hub.

 

 

Students attending courses at the Hub learn about Chinese culture as well as language skills.

Dr Nahan joined many of the Western Australia Zhejiang Business and Culture Promotion Association's first anniversary celebrations at the Ming Restaurant.

 

 

Ms Gu from the association addressed the members and reiterated the importance of strong linkages between the Zhejiang region and Western Australia.

Dr Nahan joined members of the Hindu Association of WA for a visit to their temple in Canning Vale.

 

 

While visiting the temple, Dr Nahan received a blessing from the temple priest.

Dr Nahan awarded Amanda Holthouse with the Ladies Singles Tennis Trophy at the club's end of season presentation night.

 

 

At the same event, Dr Nahan presented the club's Encouragement Award to Tracey Nicholl for her improvement in the game.

Dr Nahan and Premier Colin Barnett recently undertook a tour of local company Ausdrill's $20m state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Canning Vale, which produces a wide range of drilling equipment for mining companies.

 

 

Dr Nahan hosted a dinner at Parliament with the families of young blind man Anthony Moore and Willetton Senior High School student Enes Kaya after Enes rescued Anthony after he fell onto the train tracks while a train was at the station.

Dr Nahan was interviewed by GWN reporter Jarrad Cardy regarding the Parliamentary Gas Inquiry that Dr Nahan is chairing.

 

 

Dr Nahan recently toured Damla College, a local Turkish secular school, for a tour of the facilities and to meet some of the students.

I took pleasure in opening a special display on behalf of the Premier of Buddha relics held recently at the Perth Town Hall.

 

 

Many of the Buddha relics, which are currently touring the world, were more than 2,500 years old.

Mrs Jean King, who taught ballroom dancing for more than 80 years, shows Dr Nahan she can still dance at 100 years old.

 

 

Mrs King had five generations of her family attend the special afternoon tea that was held to celebrate her 100th birthday.

Mayor Delle Donne and Dr Nahan attended the presentation of a $250,000 cheque by Minister Faragher to Mr Boothman from the Perth Region Natural Resource Management to help reduce nutrient pollution entering the Canning River.

 

 

Dr Nahan and his staff attended the recent Herald Avenue Senior Citizen's Quiz Night. Although some of the questions proved to be a challenge, they managed to have a great time and to come in third overall.

Dr Nahan recently hosted a lunch for a Chinese photography delegation that was visiting WA to take photos for an exhibition in China. This is one of their shots of the Pinnacles.

 

 

The delegation visited many places in Western Australia and were particularly taken with our rugged coastline as this photograph of the sea rushing over rocks shows.
